There has been a lot of talk about opioid addiction – who’s to blame, how we treat it, and hopefully how we prevent it.
Can meditation play a role?
Today I bring up this sensitive can of worms. I’m certainly no expert. But there are plenty of experts that are suggesting that meditation, done on a regular basis, can play a role in not only preventing addiction, but treating it as well.

For my literature search, I started with this NIH article. It brings up the effect of meditation on both physical pain and anxiety.

I have 2 previous episodes that talk about mindfulness meditation (made famous by Jon Kabat Zinn) and meditation practiced in Buddhism.

You can learn more about transcendental meditation by going to their website,

The David Lynch foundation has a website that discusses the treatment of addiction in the prison population and in schools with transcendental meditation.
